Excellent work light. Such as 1-AA 3-AA and lights in series, political solid chunk of aluminum. Fit, finish, first class machining. Knurled barrel is full length ... just the right amount of grip. Well-balanced. Hard cord ring protrudes from the tailcap. Can not sustain it until the end, but will roll off a table ala maglite. Will fit in a pants pocket, coat pocket, toolkit, briefcase OK.

Move is positive on / off the side of the barrel near the head. Rubber covered. IPrefer to twisting the head or tailcap, or a button on / off tailcap switch. Excellent feature is the three ways of operation: high, low, strobe. Is not meant to be a light SuperBright. But the high is fine for a dark room, garages, basements, attics. Out of black darkness, it is available for lighting your way to more than 100 ft. In fact it is not cast enough light for me to see a Stop Sign 500 feet from my house. Note: A previous reviewer complained about the lack of a strobe function.But as someone pointed out in a comment, strobe is activated by pressing the switch for some sec. It is clearly stated in the instructions.

But the light is close to perfect for closeup inspection. Especially in the hi / eye setting, it is the light to get for inspecting engine compartments, within the chassis, wiring closets, under the table ... Put it on low and you can exit a keyboard up close (6 inches) without blinding yourself. Light patterns are clear areas with equalshared field. No focus, but not required. Balanced white color. About the only improvement I would ask is a momentary switch position. This is a real winner. If you want SuperBright, though, go for 3-AA unit.

Update July 10, 2009. Happy first unit. Just buy a second one. Same high quality as the first one. Some customers carp about the quality of products made in China. But what really matters more than the workplace are the detailsand quality control work. Streamlight apparently is the maintenance of high standards. The quality of materials, and appropriate and end excellent.
