It brought light into my pocket for more than two years of general use. It is a bright beam focused on a more dimmer "month flush" wide area of light (typical for this kind of focused LED). The beam is narrow (an area about casting a foot in diameter and 20 feet) and can cast shadows over a hundred feet. I read license plates more than 100 feet with it (allowing for the fact that license plates are reflectorized). It has a twist type on / off switch that turned on itself duringin my pocket. The only reason I give it four against five stars is that a few times a year I would see that it is killed by himself and drained the battery. If you carry it in a holster that it probably would not be a problem. Also, twist on / off type flashlights tend to be slightly harder to use than the kind of click switch, but is more prone to failure eventually. One of the things you end up doing this light it will go beyond the point of turning it off to reducethe chance of accidental activation. The downside of doing this is that it can further remove the lid and another in your pocket. This flashlight is very solidly built of machined aluminum. It appears to be virtually unbreakable, except for a relatively thin front lens, although it is good crop in the frame (do not try anything to douse the light before you need it or destroy the lens). There is a momentary on / off switch on the back end for signaling, or for quick useholding the button down constantly. After two years of solid use light shows light scratching on the painted surface but no other wear. Remember you can use rechargable AA NiMH batteries, but it gives you a slightly dimmer light than a regular AA Alkaline (if you're using it constantly it will save you a bunch of money for a little bit more available light ... a good trade-off). A single AA is a great feature, because it provides light equivalent of many 2-AA light.
